I-WITNESS: What's Inside the Heart of the Journalists...
I was journeying around and scanning the channels of my TV set at home one late night and stumbled upon this Late Night Public Affairs show every Monday Night, the I-WITNESS. I was on a vacation so there’s no choice for me in what to do or what not-to-do. Then I found out that it’s their year-end special. I was never so greatly heart-warmed when the reporters and journalists of the documentary show shared their feelings about their particular documentaries. I never knew then that every documentary that they made means so much for them. They are so attached to it that it made me understand the meaning that it is their life, other than the literal meaning to the phrase “Yan ang kanilang ikinabubuhay” (That’s what they do for a living).
The one that really touched my is about Kara David’s report entitled Buto’t Balat. I had never cried like that before when she told the story about that skinny girl whom she interviewed at the start of her documentary, then few days after making it and being aired, someone called to her planning to donate an amount of money for the medication of that girl that Kara featured on her show, but when she phoned in the Barangay Captain of the place where they do the shooting, she was so disappointed and cannot help but cry when she found out that the girl had already died. Damn, that was so damn painful and heart-crushing for me, (just like the feeling when I am watching Wish Ko Lang).
All other journalists working in I_WITNESS for GMA 7 earned my loyalty and trust when I saw that Special Edition of their show. At least even once in a year, they let the journalists themselves speak of what they truly feel inside about what they make, not only showing the people or the audience what they have to know but what they have to feel also. They deserve their awards.
